Types of Fish

You can target some of these species on private charters or party fishing boats.
salmon

Salmon

Another common and sought-after species in Central Oregon are coho, chum, and chinook salmon. All salmon, except for coho, are open to fish from mid-March to the end of October. Coho will be open from mid-June to the end of September. The Siletz River is a great place to target these fish and have many guide services available.
tuna

Tuna

Albacore Tuna finish up their migration to Oregon in July, staying in the area until early October. Charter and private boats that leave out of Depoe Bay are who you want to target to catch these fish. Most tuna fishers have to travel 30 miles offshore to  find tuna. While these fish can be difficult to get to, they're worth it for the thrilling chase and delicious, versatile meat.
halibut

Halibut

Halibut is one of the most common and sought-after species in Central Oregon. This fish species put up a good fight, can weigh up to a couple of hundred pounds, and they have delicious meat. When targeting halibut, we recommend fishing from May to September. Halibut fishing season is closed from January to April and October to December.
lingcod

Lingcod & Rockfish

You can fish for lingcod and rockfish any time of the year. However, their high seasons are from December to May. Most party fishing boats target these species, and you don’t have to go out very far to catch them. Cast your gaze out into the ocean just off from the Inn At Spanish Head on a calm day and you’ll spot numerous boats out fishing for lingcod and rockfish.
